Found Another Goldmine Online Resource ..

Van Schendel was a Belgian artist of Dutch origin, a painter of portraits and genre pictures, most notably nocturnes in the Romanticist style. He was also an inventor and father of fifteen children. Van Schendel was born in 1806 and lived until age 64.
The dark and dangerous times following a catastrophic collapse are often imagined as violence without direction or purpose, save momentary advantage and survival. For most it serves well as a working assumption when norms, violated more than observed, cease to be norms. But like anything else, chaos comes in grades and flavors. There is survival value in knowing what they've been in the past.
Roaming refugees. These are the locusts that swarm after a collapse, able to strip a community by weight of numbers. Typically hungry, desperate, leaderless and abandoned by leadership material, they're drifters and opportunists. Small communities are overrun and looted in the manner of a flash mob. Bug-in preppers are the bon bons of preference for the more capable among them. Well sited survival communities are unlikely to be in the path of roaming refugees.
Gangs. Existing gangs are specialists dependent on a functioning urban environment. Once the cities and suburbs are stripped, "street smarts" are useless and they become parasites without a host. Surviving famine and scarcity takes a different set of skills, and the learning curve is steep. Ethnocentric gangs are most likely to remain intact, but most likely to attack each other. Pointlessly aggressive and impatient by nature, they're a more dangerous subset of roaming refugees. The more ambitious gangs are marauders in the making. A survival community should overestimate their capabilities.
Marauders. In war, marauders are bands of military adventurers that strike at unexpected targets from an unexpected direction in unexpected ways. Unlike commandos deployed against high value targets, the marauder has a general mandate best described as "extreme cost effectiveness". Seasoned marauders are inventive, patient, and have an almost otherworldly ability to sniff out opportunity. The safer a survival community believes itself to be, the more vulnerable it is to marauders.
Partisans. At the outset these will be existing militia, typically modelled as light infantry except without recourse to heavy weapons support, self-armed and trained primarily as skirmishers. Their first task is likely to be defending their home community from roaming refugees and gangs. As the emergency devolves other partisans will arise, some as patriotic resistance outfits, some as mercenaries for war lords with territorial ambitions, some warranting response in kind and some qualifying as candidates for an alliance. Partisans see a survival community as a source of supplies and recruits, either theirs or their enemy's.
Government and quasi-government. Drastic downsizing will pressure fiefdoms with overlapping authority to battle for supremacy. Even within government no one will be sure who is king and who is not king. Subjugating and exploiting the productive territories that sustain them will be government's only real job. The classic morphing of government will accelerate—every bureaucracy wants to be a police force, every police force wants to be an army. Martial law is a given, there will be no civil liberties. A survival community careless enough to draw their attention will have some hard times ahead.
Yes, we are all in for a bad day .. and here we sit behind our computers with the US government logging our every keystoke .. for "evidence" later of treason no doubt. That is how they work. SMH

Now ... About Those Military That DID Make it Home Alive (or Partially Alive)

Having grieved the loss of lives due to the lies the US government has pedaled the last 200 years .. we turn to those who, either were drafted (i.e. Vietnam era and prior) or volunteered to:

Returning from these wars or covert ops based on lies, requires that these participants in the government's programs of regime change around the world (as well as the amoral tasks these soldiers, sailors and airmen have obeyed to carry out) reflect on their actions and words while in these roles.

For decades, honorable US servicemen have returned only to figure out that they have been deceived:
[see the famous speech in context here]

It is one thing for the US government to deceive millions of young people to use for their agenda, BUT when they return home ravaged by physical or mental wounds it is the same government that refuses to treat these who have given of themselves.

Lately we have experienced a suicide rate of 22 vets a day and yet the US government VA program refuses to treat these people with natural Rx that could alleviate the PTSD they live with daily:
America’s prolonged military conflicts over the past 17 years have exposed an aging and ineffective health care system, ill-prepared for the type and severity of the latest round of war-related injuries. Upwards of 20 percent of the 2.7 million Iraq and Afghanistan veterans will experience post-traumatic stress or depression, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The VA is not equipped to effectively or comprehensively treat the complexity of every veteran’s mental and physical wounds, leaving former service members to cope with limited and inadequate treatment options. Veterans are often placated with “cocktails” of prescription drugs, including powerful and addictive opiates. The current arrangement is not meeting veterans’ healthcare needs.

Not only this, should vets be treated, they risk losing the ability to defend themselves, their family and their property!

A determination of mental incompetence by the VA, tied to the management of monetary benefits through the VA’s fiduciary program, bars the beneficiary from possessing or buying a gun because of a provision in the “Brady Bill.”
Despite this possibility, the VA maintains that the fears are misplaced.
A spokesperson for the agency said that concerns about losing firearms due to a PTSD diagnosis are “unfounded.”
But the article provides evidence to the contrary, describing the experience of Sergeant Eddie Montoya, who was present during a bombing near Mosul in 2004 that killed 22 people.
Montoya later received a PTSD diagnosis, before ending up in a psychiatric hold during a stay at a VA clinic where he sought help for alcohol abuse.
After Montoya sought to increase his benefits, a subsequent evaluation led the agency to consider designating him incompetent and having a guardian manage his benefits.
Later, he was denied a concealed carry permit by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
“I was reaching out to a ‘trusted’ source’ and got penalized for it,” said Montoya. “This is why vets won’t reach out.”
Even though the VA and various lawyer firms SAY there is no cause for alarm, once you are a veteran, you KNOW you can never trust the US Government .. fact!

This is not right nor is it moral .. but that is government (1 Sam 8:9-18):

For me, I would rather have anarchy .. an environment without rulers (not without rules duh) .. like the Farmer's Market below:

What if... (Timeless 3.5 min Video)

Fixated on Another Government Worship Day? You Bet .. the Lies of Memorial Day

I hate lies. I love truth. Friends don't let friends believe in lies .. but they also allow someone that process .. towards truth .. it is a different timeline for everyone .. everyone is unique and ultimately have to own their own beliefs, values, mission, etc.

By the way, I detest the way the Lincoln administration chose to bury their dead on an honorable man's private property .. a man who had 100x the character of Lincoln himself when it came to principles. Lincoln's words in 1848 about a very Jefferson idea about the consent of the governed would have been something that Robert E. Lee would have agreed with .. and when Lee acted on this belief, Lincoln made sure Lee could never return to his home.

The quote Lee and Lincoln would agree to:
“Any people, anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most valuable, a most sacred right, a right which we hope and believe is to liberate the world. Nor is this right confined to cases in which the whole people of an existing government may choose to exercise it. Any portion of such people, that can, may revolutionize, and make their own of so much of the territory as they inhabit. More than this, a majority of any portion of such people may revolutionize, putting down a minority, intermingled with, or near about them, who may oppose their movements.” ~ Lincoln January 12 1848, expressing the near-universally held Jeffersonian principle

Anyway, Jacob Hornberger at FFF shares this timely article:
Today, Memorial Day, Americans across the land will hear the same message: that U.S. soldiers who have died in America’s foreign wars and foreign interventions have done so in the defense of our rights and freedoms. It is a message that will be heard in sporting events, memorial services, airports, churches, and everywhere else that Memorial Day is being commemorated.
There is one big thing wrong, however. It’s a lie. None of those soldiers died protecting our rights and freedoms. That’s because our rights and freedoms were never being threatened by the enemy forces that killed those soldiers.
Let’s work our way backwards...
Yes, lets look at how the US military defended our rights and freedoms ... it should not take long and you will see that it has been a LONG time since they actually did that:

Syria. The Syrian government has never invaded the United States and tried to take away our rights and freedoms. Therefore, any U.S. soldier who has died in Syria was not killed protecting our rights and freedoms.
Niger. The Niger government has never invaded the United States and tried to take away our freedoms. Therefore, any U.S. soldier who has died in Niger was not killed protecting our rights and freedoms.
Iraq. The Iraq government never invaded the United States and tried to take away our rights and freedoms. Therefore, any U.S. soldier who has died in Iraq was not killed protecting our rights and freedoms.
Afghanistan. The Afghan government never invaded the United States and tried to take away our rights and freedoms. Therefore, any U.S. soldier who has died in Afghanistan was not killed protecting our rights and freedoms. Even al-Qaeda never invaded the United States and tried to take away our rights and freedoms. Its terrorist attacks, including the one on 9/11, were retaliation for U.S. interventionism in the Middle East.
Panama. The Panama government never invaded the United States and tried to take away our rights freedoms. Therefore, any U.S. soldier who died in Panama was not killed protecting our rights and freedoms.
Grenada. The Grenada government never invaded the United States and tried to take away our rights freedoms. Therefore, any U.S. soldier who died in Grenada was not killed protecting our rights and freedoms.
Vietnam. The North Vietnam government never invaded the United States and tried to take away our rights and freedoms. Therefore, any U.S. soldier who died in Vietnam was not killed protecting our rights and freedoms.
Korea. The North Korean government never invaded the United States and tried to take away our rights freedoms. Therefore, any U.S. soldier who died in Korea was not killed protecting our rights and freedoms.
World War II.
The Japanese government never invaded the United States and tried to take away our rights and freedoms. Therefore, any U.S. soldier who died in the Pacific theater in World War II was not killed protecting our rights and freedoms. The Japanese attack on U.S. Naval forces on Hawaii was intended solely to prevent the U.S. Navy from interfering with Japanese attempts to acquire oil in the Dutch East Indies in response to President Roosevelt’s oil embargo, whose aim was to provoke the Japanese into attacking the United States so that the U.S. could get into the European part of war.
The German government never invaded the United States and try to take away our rights and freedoms. Therefore, any U.S. soldier who died in the European theater in World War II was not killed protecting our rights and freedoms. Germany wasn’t even able to cross the English Channel to invade England, much less the Atlantic Ocean to invade the United States. In fact, the last thing that Germany wanted was war with the United States, as reflected by Germany’s refusal to react to President Roosevelt’s repeated provocations to get Germany to attack the United States. Germany only declared war on the United States after FDR successfully provoked the Japanese into attacking the U.S. Navy fleet at Pearl Harbor, in the hope that this would provide a back door to entry into the war in Europe.
World War I. The German government never invaded the United States and tried to take away our rights freedoms. Therefore, any U.S. soldier who died in World War I was not killed protecting our rights and freedoms, especially given the ridiculous aims of U.S. intervention into the war: to “end all wars” and to “make the world safe for democracy,” a word that isn’t even in the U.S. Constitution. In fact, it is perversely ironic that it was U.S. interventionism into the conflict that contributed to the rise of Nazi Germany and World War II.
The Spanish-American War. The Spanish government never invaded the United States and tried to take away our rights freedoms. Therefore, any soldier who died in the Spanish-American War was not killed protecting our rights and freedoms.
 I will add the following:

The War Against Southern Independence (of seven states originally, wrongly called a civil war, wrong because the southern states did not want any other territory, PERIOD).

The South Carolina militia in Dec 1860 to April 1861 never invaded the United States and try to take away the rights of those in other states. As a sovereign entity (reclaiming what it had before the Constitution and the Articles of Confederation) it said LEAVE US ALONE.

The Confederate States of America from Feb to April 1861 never invaded the United States and try to take away the rights of those in other states. While after the US Army detachment in Fort Moultrie violated the agreement in place since Dec 1860 when it agreed NOT to take any action in Charleston Harbor and remained at peace in what was now South Carolina territory (seceded from USA), Gen. Anderson, in the cover of night moved his troops to Fort Sumter. When Lincoln attempted to resupply the fort with provisions AND troops was when the forces around Charleston Harbor chose to fire on Fort Sumter .. KILLING NO ONE.

The Confederate States of America (now 11 states) from April - July 1861 never invaded the United States and try to take away the rights of those in other states.

CASE CLOSED! Why celebrate Memorial Day when the reason for its existence is based on lies .. it is yet another government piece of propaganda that when repeated enough get into the heads of the sheep!

Bottom line is that while the defense of the United States in the War of 1812 was honorable, even that war was entered into under questionable circumstances and outright lies. Know that by 1814 the NORTH was ready to secede from the United States (peacefully) .. you might want to Google the "Hartford Convention of 1814"

"... the Hartford Convention began a three-week debate about the relationship between the then 18 states and the federal government. The meeting was held in secret by New England members of the Federalist Party and there were nationwide fears that the Hartford Convention would call for New England's secession from the Union.

New Englanders were unhappy over political concerns that they were being badly treated by the Union. Since Thomas Jefferson's election in 1800, the president had been a Southerner chosen by an electoral system that allowed the slave-holding Southern states to count each slave as 60 percent of a free person for their allocation of congressional seats and the number of presidential electors..."

Did the southern states invade the north to keep this from happening? No! As early as 1804, sensing that New England was not happy with things (this time it was the Louisiana Purchase, another time when secession was discussed in the north.):
“Whether we remain in one confederacy, or form into Atlantic and Mississippi confederacies, I believe not very important to the happiness of either part.  Those of the western confederacy will be as much our children & descendants as those of the eastern, and I feel myself as much identified with that country, in future time, as with this; and did I now foresee a separation at some future day, yet I should feel the duty & the desire to promote the western interests as zealously as the eastern, doing all the good for both portions of our future family which should fall within my power.”
–Letter from President Thomas Jefferson to Dr. Joseph Priestly, Jan. 29, 1804
So maybe the American Revolutionary War was really the last time the government's troops fought for our freedom and for our rights. Think about that!

PS Also, if you think George Washington was really the tactical hero of Yorktown, just know that when the French general Jean-Baptiste Donatien de Vimeur, comte de Rochambeau told Washington to move his troops to Yorktown as the French fleet was coming to contain the British troops under Cornwallis there, Washington had a melt-down and at first refused the thought thinking as he had the last few years that the decisive battle HAD to take place against the British in New York harbor. ISIS Dying as Its Dad (McCain) is Dying - and US/Israel Tries to Find a Home for It

Can't get more obvious .. you KNOW that ISIS left a LOT behind in Syria and now Russia, Syria and Iran know what the US, UK, Israel and Saudi Arabia have been up to the last decade.

So Syria aims to clean up the southwest corridor to open the M5 highway to Jordan which would be great for both economies .. trade is a good thing, sanctions is the first stage of wars!

Here is the situation articulated from Moon of Alabama's site:
The Syrian government and its Russian ally plan to clean up the southwest region of Syria around the city of Daraa. The move should open the M5 highway, Syria's lifeline, between Damascus and Jordan and secure the border with Jordan as well as the demarcation line with the Israel occupied Golan Heights.

This can only be seen for what it is .. trying to find a home for AlQ/ISIS .. seems that typical of "agreements", that the US and ISIS/AlQ are defaulting on them when it is convienanct for them to do so to delay extraction VIA Israel to yet another area in the ME

On July 7 2017 The U.S, Russia and Jordan agreed to set up a de-escalation zone in southwest Syria. The parameters were not publicized and the implementation lagged. Russia had offered to let its military police supervise the zone but the U.S. rejected that. The opening of the important M5 highway to Jordan which was originally part of the plan did likewise not happen. The ceasefire in the region was broken several times. There was also infighting between ISIS and al-Qaeda
In November 2017 the presidents of the United States and Russia met and agreed to a Memorandum of Principals which covered southwest Syria. The memorandum was not published
The neo-conservatives at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) disliked the agreement. It headlined Southern Syria Deal Fails to Constrain Iran, al Qaeda. Israel had demanded that no groups associated with Iran should come near the zone, but no such rule was agreed upon. ISW also noted
Al Qaeda has exploited the ‘de-escalation zone’ to develop a new durable safe haven along the Syrian-Jordanian border.
Neither al-Qaeda nor the Islamic State are covered by the de-escalation and ceasefire agreement. UN Security Council resolutions 2249 and 2254 demand that all UN members fight Al Qaeda, ISIS and individuals and groups associate with them. It calls upon UN member states "to eradicate the safe haven they have established over significant parts of Syria".

We may see this yet again under the cover of its protectors:
Wonder when these forces go through Israel what flag they will be holding?

The Iranian ambassador to Jordan Mojtaba Ferdowsi-pour publicly declared that Iran has no role in any military operation in south of Syria. He added:
'After ending its mission in Syria, Iran will not remain in Syria and whenever Syrian government ask us, Iran will leave the country.'
It is obvious that the Syrian government and its Russian allies have all rights to fight ISIS and al-Qaeda independent of any de-escalation agreement. The UNSC resolutions even demand that. But the U.S. thinks different.
The US is delaying .. trying to cover-up the AlQ/ISIS extraction effort ... US forces have ZERO reason to be there in Syria. Bullies don't care .. but blowback will be a bitch!!!

US/Trump Position on Syria - Reflections on 1861-1865 (War that Created Decoration/Memorial Day)

You can't have it both ways now can you? Or is this different? Or is THIS really different?

VS.

Case #1: A sovereign government is in place in a defined territory. Foreign countries (Israel, UK, US, Saudi Arabia, Qatar) attempt to destabilize this country by relocating its militia (called ISIS) from Iraq to Syria. Now the Syrian government with assistance from Russia and Iran are beating back this EXTERNAL influence and the USA says STOP IT!

".. “As a guarantor of this de-escalation area with Russia and Jordan, the United States will take firm and appropriate measures in response to Assad regime violations,” State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said in a statement late on Friday [25MAY2018] ..."

Reuters news service goes on to spin:

".. A war monitor, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, reported on Wednesday that Syrian government forces fresh from their victory this week against an Islamic State pocket in south Damascus were moving into the southern province of Deraa..."

What is the problem with this?

The fact is that Syrian state-run media have reported that government aircraft have dropped leaflets on rebel-held areas in Deraa urging fighters to disarm. (is this not proper?) The U.S. warning comes weeks after a similar attack on a de-escalation zone in northeastern Syria held by U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces. U.S. ground and air forces repelled the more than four-hour attack, killing perhaps as many as 300 pro-Assad militia members, many of them Russian mercenaries.

Reuters continues the spin:

"... Backed by Russian warplanes, ground forces from Iran and allied militia, including Lebanon’s Hezbollah, have helped Assad drive rebels from Syria’s biggest cities, putting him in an unassailable military position..."

Seriously? The SAA is in fact allowing those serving as early as 2010 to leave the army. The Syrian government is in the home stretch of getting those illegals OUT of Syrian territory. That includes US troops as well as their buddies ISIS.

Case #2 A sovereign country that is a confederation of 33 states (in their original configuration, they ONLY gave up enough of their sovereignty to allow for regional security and internal free trade). The northern states started to become more powerful in the 1830s and therefore utilized the government to favor their regions (North and "West"(Midwest)) by being the beneficiary of taxes and tariffs (on particular products) collected mainly at southern ports and being configured in a way that disadvantaged the south. (anyone that knows US history knows of the "Tariff of Abominations" right?

Starting in December 1860, some of these states held legal proceedings and voting towards peacefully exiting the confederation EVEN when the promise of a constitutional amendment would have allowed perpetual slavery. These states knew as well, that being OUT of this union of states meant that their run-a-way slaves could NOT be captured in the northern states and returned to them. Despite this, EACH state chose what to do. Some states chose to stay (Virginia, etc.) and others (7) chose to leave and remain outside this "marriage". Thirty plus years of abuse was enough.

In case #2, this was INTERNAL peoples desiring to exit a contract, not unlike what happened in 1776 with the American colonies and the British Empire. It seems that ever since 1776 the US has wavered on whether to support the will of the people in lands far from its shore. In the 1970s the US encouraged and funded the Mujihideen in Afghanistan (Bin Laden and crew) .. but in Crimea, there is a constitutional secession from Ukraine to Russia and the USA goes nuts.

The US government (as always) does not operate on principle, but on selfish desires while it sees the world as its responsibility. Even Abraham Lincoln was bi-polar like this when he said in December 1846: "Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up, and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most valuable,—most sacred right—a right, which we hope and believe, is to liberate the world." In April of 1861 he no longer believed this.

[NOTE: In this resource, the above quote is conveniently left out .. REALLY?]

The myth making of Abraham Lincoln and at times the outright deification is nauseating .. but I digress.

Also in case #2 there were forces at work in the remaining 26 states (a minority of the general population of these states were Pro-War in fact as of March 1861 when Lincoln was inaugurated as President of the United States .. getting only 39% of the vote and not one vote in most southern states) that spread a panic of the financial fallout and fear of a future with a "free trade zone" to their south. This minority would use fear of the future to further its goals. New England's internal exports of goods would dry up, Western farmers saw the path of their products to the world via the Mississippi River getting worse case blocked or best case taxed. The government itself saw revenues from tariffs from cotton exports severely diminished as the newspapers went from assuming peaceful separation towards calling on a FORCED effort to stop the secessions.

The secession did NOT start the war. In fact, Lincoln carefully avoided acknowledging the secessions, kept the stars on the flag all because he used an "insurrection" law from the 1790s to justify his calling up 75,000 troops and NOT calling Congress to session until July 4th 1861 .. so that he could get the preparation for war and its natural momentum in place. People and presses that were not for Lincoln were shut down and imprisoned without trial, legislatures in Maryland and Delaware were threatened should they even consider meeting to discuss secession. THESE Lincoln actions caused four more states to officially secede from the union.

In summary, in case #1, the US participated in the war in Syria .. in case #2 the US participated in the war against its own people .. for ITS OWN SELFISH DESIRES.

Government is evil.

Case #2 source material is up to you to research .. it is out there!

Gaza - Product of Zionist Policy Supported by UK/US

Truth is, Israel is not Israel .. I mean, if you look in the Bible and are looking for blood descendents of the Hebrews .. you see more in the Palestinian faces than in the Zionist faces. Gaza and West Bank atrocities are criminal .. a monster is created who calls who oppose it "terrorists".

Dictictorial and apartheid based policies brought the region to this .. thanks to US/UK meddling and support lately from Saudi Arabia and ISIS:

".. question remains, where did all the Palestinians come from?  Israel long claimed there were no such people, or a made-up nationality. This was a pretty rich claim coming from Israelis, many of whom hailed from Russia, Poland and Eastern Europe and who had assumed biblical identities and asserted a direct link to the Hebrews who had lived two thousand years earlier in the Levant.

When Israel was created by the US and UN (with Soviet support) in 1948, from 750,000 to one million native Palestinians were driven from their ancestral home at gunpoint or panicked to flight by massacres and ethnic cleansing.   Their villages were bulldozed.

When Israel conquered and annexed the West Bank and the Old City of Jerusalem in 1967, another 500,000 Palestinians were made refugees.   Some 50,000-250,000 Syrians were driven by Israel from the strategic Golan Heights.  Bedouins were driven from Israel’s Negev Desert.

By our era, the number of homeless Palestinians has grown to 5 million refugees helped by the UN and at least another million scattered about the Mideast..."

Original Decoration Day (April 1866 in Columbus, Georgia)

".. The women who held the first “Decoration Day” in Columbus, Georgia in 1866 did so to honor the dozens of Confederate soldiers buried in Linwood Cemetery. This was soon replicated across the South. The Grand Army of the Republic copied the event in 1868 ..."

Columbus, Georgia is my birthplace .. and someday [on my bucket list] I hope to visit this location where southern women chose to honor ALL who died in this horrible war.

We have known this annual day of reflection as Memorial Day for 150 years but it did not originate in the North. The Southern version actually honored BOTH the gray (Confederates) and the blue (Union) soldiers and sailors.

"... The monuments that these modern day Leninists believe represent “white supremacy” were a byproduct of a movement that began one year after the conclusion of hostilities to remember the over two hundred thousand men who died defending the Southern fight for independence.

It took decades to collect enough pennies to build the monuments that are now being toppled in hours.

Not even the Yankees who faced cannon and rifle fire from these Confederate soldiers were so bold to deny Southerners their memorials. Some, in fact, joined hands at dedication ceremonies across the South. If anyone should have hated Confederate soldiers, it was these men. But they didn’t.

Thousands of Union soldiers saluted their Confederate counterparts as they surrendered at Appomattox and wept with them when these Southern patriots gave up their flags. Not one Union soldier burned a Confederate flag or dragged it through the mud when the War was over. The immediate aftermath was magnanimous on both sides..."

A note about the HONOR of the cause of secession (legal just as is divorce in terms of contractual obligations) .. ".. If anyone wants to understand why these monuments were erected, simply read the inscriptions. Not one is dedicated to “white supremacy,” but all honor the Confederate soldier and many the Southern women who supported the cause. Several are dedicated to the “Principles of 1776” and the “Sovereignty of the States,” the same cause Southerners wrote about as they headed off to war in 1861..." This is in defense of a homeland.

The seven southern states attempted peace negotiations with the Lincoln administration but they would have none of that in March 1861 after he was elected. Instead, Lincoln called it an INSURRECTION and used language from a 1790s law that was used to deploy troops to Pennsylvania to suppress the "Whiskey Tax Rebellion". If this is the case .. it (i.e. war) WAS about collection of taxes just as Lincoln said during his first inaugural address. The secession was about abusive taxation (without seven Southern states in Congress, there was a doubling of tariff/taxation passed into law that would have hit the southern states even MORE than the current taxing scheme. The founders knew that taxing one region of the US higher than another would not end well. (Like one spouse blowing more money than the other on themselves .. divorce is inevitable). Leaving a marriage does NOT justify violence against the departing party ,, EVER.

Died for a Lie vs. Died Protecting Ones Home

Seems that the ones dying protecting their homes are the most honorable.

If one does research, one finds that most wars started by the US government were based on a Lie .. no different is the Civil War / War Between the States / War Against Southern Independence:

".. The first thing one learns from reading the books listed above is that America did not need a war to end slavery. Every other Western country that held slaves in the nineteeth century – which included Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela, and Jamaica – freed them peacefully. The South would have done the same before the century was over. If anything, the fact that seven slaveholding states seceded from the Union when Lincoln was elected president would have sped up the process. As several of the historians above point out, many people in the North considered the 1850 Fugitive Slave Law to be an abomination, and the law would have been repealed if Lincoln had allowed the Southern states to go their own way. The Constitution of the Confederate States of American prohibited the importation of slaves (Article I, Section 9); with their supply thus restricted, and slaves now having a place to escape to, slavery in the Confederacy would have ended as it did elsewhere, without war..."

If the southern seven states that peacefully seceded only wanted slavery, why didn't they return and ratify the Corwin Amendment, the original 13th amendment to the US Constitution?

How We Got Memorial Day

Called Decoration Day .. it was a time to reflect on both who (dead soldiers) and what (our republic) we lost.

What ripped the fabric of the republic? And Lincoln the tyrant (hero to Yankee types who blindly worship him).

Consider:

".. Lincoln was the greatest tyrant and despot in American history. In the first four months of his presidency, he created a complete military dictatorship, destroyed the Constitution, ended forever the constitutional republic which the Founding Fathers instituted, committed horrendous crimes against civilian citizens, and formed the tyrannical, overbearing and oppressive Federal government which the American people suffer under to this day. In his first four months, he:

Failed to call Congress into session after the South fired upon Fort Sumter, in direct violation of the Constitution.

Called up an army of 75,000 men, bypassing the Congressional authority in direct violation of the Constitution.

Unilaterally suspended the writ of habeas corpus, a function of Congress, violating the Constitution. This gave him the power, as he saw it, to arrest civilians without charge and imprison them indefinitely without trial—which he did.

Ignored a Supreme Court order to restore the right of habeas corpus, thus violating the Constitution again and ignoring the Separation of Powers which the Founders put in place exactly for the purpose of preventing one man’s using tyrannical powers in the executive.

When the Chief Justice forwarded a copy of the Supreme Court’s decision to Lincoln, he wrote out an order for the arrest of the Chief Justice and gave it to a U.S. Marshall for expedition, in violation of the Constitution.

Unilaterally ordered a naval blockade of southern ports, an act of war, and a responsibility of Congress, in violation of the Constitution.

Commandeered and closed over 300 newspapers in the North, because of editorials against his war policy and his illegal military invasion of the South. This clearly violated the First Amendment freedom of speech and press clauses.

Sent in Army forces to destroy the printing presses and other machinery at those newspapers, in violation of the Constitution.

Arrested the publishers, editors and owners of those newspapers, and imprisoned them without charge and without trial for the remainder of the war, all in direct violation of both the Constitution and the Supreme Court order aforementioned.

Arrested and imprisoned, without charge or trial, another 15,000-20,000 U.S. citizens who dared to speak out against the war, his policies, or were suspected of anti-war feelings. (Relative to the population at the time, this would be equivalent to President G.W. Bush arresting and imprisoning roughly 150,000-200,000 Americans without trial for “disagreeing” with the Iraq war; can you imagine?)

Sent the Army to arrest the entire legislature of Maryland to keep them from meeting legally, because they were debating a bill of secession; they were all imprisoned without charge or trial, in direct violation of the Constitution.

Unilaterally created the state of West Virginia in direct violation of the Constitution.

Sent 350,000 Northern men to their deaths to kill 350,000 Southern men in order to force the free and sovereign states of the South to remain in the Union they, the people, legally voted to peacefully withdraw from, all in order to continue the South’s revenue flow into the North..."

Memorial Day TRUTH Reflections

Can't think of many honorable wars that were not started (or ended) with lies or deceit (even in "history" books).

With that in mind, my Memorial Day will be spent thinking on all the lives lost due to these lies ..

".. remembering some of the non-combatant victims of war during the last century or two:

The American South at the hands of Lincoln and Sherman.

Filipinos at the hands of the Americans.

Koreans at the hands of the Japanese.

Up to 1.5 million Armenians of Eastern Anatoliaduring the First World War, at the hands of the Ottoman Turks.

Anyone who live in the lands between Russia and Germany during the first half of the twentieth century…at the hands of the Russians and Germans.

Countless millions of Ukrainians at the hands of Stalin’s forced famine.

Hundreds of thousands of Soviet citizens, victims of Stalin’s Great Terror.

German victims of Allied bombings of civilian populations.

Up to 14 million Germans forcibly relocated (and up to 1 million killed) after World War Two, at the hands of the victorious Allies.

At least 200,000 Japanese at Hiroshima and Nagasaki.  And here.  And here.  By you-know-who.

Millions of Palestinians (and counting) at the hands of the Jews.  And here.  And here.  And here.

There are many more examples: Chinese at the hands of the Japanese; Koreans in the 1950s and Vietnamese in the 1960s and 1970s – both at the hands of American; pretty much everyone living in Iraq, Syria, Libya, and Yemen..."

This Ain't Your Great-Great-Great .. Grand-Momma's Land

A few generations of pioneer types came over the Atlantic and risked everything for a life of liberty and freedom to succeed or fail on their own. They did not want handouts, protection or other things that would have them be in effect slaves to a system.

These people also read the classics, read critically newspapers (never assuming it was the truth) and raised a family so the legacy might continue.

Generations later have given way to a nation (no longer a federation of unique colonies/states/cultures) of sheep who love their masters (wolves)

This land no longer deserves freedom and liberty .. we have our earthly "king" and are reaping the reward (slavery) .. God will not have to rescue these people, He opted not to rescue the people He chose, Israel.

1 Samuel 8 (Bible)

".. And the Lord told him: “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will claim as his rights.”

Samuel told all the words of the Lord to the people who were asking him for a king. He said, “This is what the king who will reign over you will claim as his rights: He will take your sons and make them serve with his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots. Some he will assign to be commanders of thousands and commanders of fifties, and others to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and still others to make weapons of war and equipment for his chariots. He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers. He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his attendants. He will take a tenth of your grain and of your vintage and give it to his officials and attendants. Your male and female servants and the best of your cattle and donkeys he will take for his own use. He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves. When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, but the Lord will not answeryou in that day.”.."

Russia's Conundrum

".. Everyone should understand that I am not a pro-Russian anti-American.  I am anti-war, especially nuclear war.  My concern is that the inability of the Russian government to put its foot down is due to its belief that Russian development, despite all the talk about the Eurasian partnership and the Silk Road, is dependent on being integrated with the West. This totally erroneous belief prevents the Russian government from any decisive break with the West.  .."

Agreed. It is a fine line to walk as the US Empire is quick to "regime change" other countries that don't bow to the USD .. it's a sick world, with a sick empire.

US Empire needs to release those states that would exit into a confederation similar to that which existed in 1776 / 1861 .. but it will NEVER relinquish that abusive power over this land willingly.

Really Oathkeepers?

Between this AND Oathkeepers supporting "standing for national anthem" to the degree that they claim:

".. all of us veterans feel the same way as Johnny, his father, and his uncles about our nation’s flag and our National Anthem..."

(Epic BS) ... has myself DONE with this Redcoat organization. The 1775 Patriots would be shaking their head at this bootlicking statist organization that worships the Constitution and the American Empire.

".. Placing sub-stations in schools creates a frequent or non-stop presence of police officers. Having such a heavy police presence going in and out of the school acts as a strong deterrent..."

I call BS .. the schools are already a government prison and Oathkeepers seems to agree to ratchet that up is not an issue. Ineffective government parasites are not the best answer ..

The only upside is that this arrangement might lead to an Exodus of government schools towards homeschooling!

Government Can't Do Things Well and Always Gets Worse with Time

“The tank, the B-52, the fighter-bomber, the state-controlled police and the military are the weapons of dictatorship. The rifle is the weapon of democracy… If guns are outlawed, only the government will have guns. Only the police, the secret police, the military, the hired servants of our rulers. Only the government—and a few outlaws. I intend to be among the outlaws.” - Edward Abbey
Can I get an amen? I sure hope so .. this article makes me smile ..
"...I am opposed to the government death penalty; I am also pro-life which makes me blessedly consistent.  I don’t trust the government to be able to have the responsibility to mete out the severest penalty and to do it either professionally or with no ill intent.  In the smaller sense, the evidence is massive of the queue of innocents who have been shot, hanged and poisoned for crimes they did not commit.  In the larger sense, government puts us all on death row and it is just a matter of time before the cops kill you in your home or vehicle or we suffer a massive die-off in America from an EMP burst that takes us from zero to 1850 in one second.
I use this preamble to frame my severe skepticism of the state doing the right thing…ever."
Yes, totally agreed that the state is prone to get worse over time no matter what piece of paper is stuck away in some locked cabinet (yes, the "holy" Constitution .. I call BS, it was a coup d'etat)
"...I am not opposed to the death penalty in my house if an intruder comes in to do harm to me or mine.  I am a Flinter in temperament and predisposition.  Most of the laws on the books are noxious, useless and liberty-draining in their essence.  Malum prohibitum is the state saying don’t do that because I told you not to.  A monstrous fallacy whose logic only serves to reduce subject populations to assessed rentals on their freedom that can be wrested away at the drop of the constabulary’s hat.  I daresay that one could throw every statute book into the bonfires across the nation when Americans finally wake up and throw off their shackles of serfdom from the local to the national level and folks would not find themselves in danger but would stumble into prosperity.
Will commerce and everyday living really come to a screeching halt because the coproaches ..."
You know, cops!
"... don’t show up to work or the sloth-like city landscaping crews refuse to shamble from their abodes to dawdle at make-work throughout the burgs of America?  All of a sudden, the economic illiterates occupying the municipalities across the nation go on strike for higher wages and more vacation time for weeks, nay months; will the country stagnate and fold onto itself?
Things would be difficult for about 24 hours and then voluntarism, persuasion and cooperation would emerge as the factors that make life worth living.  No utopia this and there would be scores settled and inevitable failures but only the individuals would be responsible and not the nameless strangers who lord over every facet of our lives like pawns on a macabre chess board.
Innovation has never once sprung from the mind of a mob. Ever..."
Yes, some days I am "like enough already" and other days I am like "so many would suffer ,, especially the snowflakes"

A final quote from Edward Abbey:
“Grown men do not need leaders.”

Where Have All The Wise Ones Gone - Long Time Passing

From this article .. thoughts around the types of people that are seen as potential natural influencers to the mobs these days .. but will they ever have ears for this message?:
"The philosopher/theologian pursues education the way a loving man pursues his wife. He is not studying her to manipulate her. He does not view her like a stepping stone toward greater personal success. He does not use her strengths to boost his career. He pursues her because he loves her. He wants to know her because he cares about her. Romance is relational, and so is wisdom. The philosopher/theologian has a soul captivated with the mysteries of the divine and dives into the deep end knowing he will never explore the depths of the sea of learning as long as he lives. No academic program can contain it. It is a pursuit which never ends. The result of such a pursuit is a humble well-rounded man of wisdom. He knows he has merely scratched the surface. He knows his place is that of the passive observer attempting to comprehend principles set in place by someone far greater than him. He does not manipulate the world around him but uses the wisdom he obtains to faithfully occupy whatever station he possesses.,, The beauty of the philosopher/theologian is that any person is capable of being one. Academic accolades are not required, just a love for truth."
The title of my post is based off a 60s/70s song "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" written by Pete Seeger made popular during the Vietnam War by the group "Peter, Paul and Mary"
Where have all the flowers gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the flowers gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the flowers gone?
Girls have picked them every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

An image might help:

Yes, an anti-war song. So what does this have to do with the missing wise ones today? This is nothing new .. the wise, the prophetic (forth-telling / truth-telling .. not fortune telling) have all been marginalized and driven underground by the loud, arrogent and ignorant used as tools of the elite, the politicians, and the deep state all who profit and obtain power in this current environment.

No wonder fake news travels so fast .. no one stops to think about it and when the wise ones after thinking reply .. well then that is OLD news and no one cares even if it was outright lies and half-truths.

It does seem that the true "half-life" of a main stream media / government lie is probably a generation or two. Recent whoppers are still believed by the masses (WMDs in Iraq, Global Warming, etc) .. and ones 150 years old (Lincoln invaded the South to rescue the slaves, George Washington decided to move his troops to Virginia to surround the British, etc) are believed as well.

Early in our country's life, many were influenced by these thinkers who wrapped the known with the mysteries of life " ... the philosopher/theologian ought to be the ideal man, not because he is the smartest, but because he is the wisest. He is the wisest because he understands the connections which exist between fields of study and in knowing such connections has a more direct understanding of the immaterial eternal world of ideals and principles.,,"

As time went on, following the philosopher/theologian was the  ".. gentleman who ... retained the noble moral code of the previous station without the other-worldly glow. In short, he was the man of tradition defending the world passed on to him, but without a transcendent standard to be self-conscious of. While it was the case that the vast majority of gentleman drew their precepts from religion, it was not a requirement to be religious in order to attain to the status..."

Following the gentleman in "...This is the world we currently live in.,, [is the specialist] If you’ve ever seen someone dressed up in a lab coat trying to sell you the newest invention or medicine you are witnessing the elevation of the specialist. The specialist understands his limited narrow field of study and that is about all he is expected to comprehend. Those in society elevate the specialist because he is the “best” in his field. Not all of this is wrong in every way, but there is a fundamental deceptive element to it, and it relates directly to Christ-likeness, academia, and humility."

I see it all day every day in the field I am in. Scientists and engineers can both have a narrow specialty and therefore miss a grounding element that keeps them humble.

"... You see, the specialist is in danger of catching a disease all men are prone to, but not all men are exposed to, at least not to the same degree. Call it a bad case of having a “big head.” The Apostle Paul talks about it in 1 Corinthians 8:1. “knowledge makes arrogant, but love edifies.” Of course knowledge itself is not the problem, otherwise the Apostle’s reference to the “gift of knowledge” (12:8), or his multiple positive uses of the same term (i.e. 11:3) in the same epistle would make little sense. It is best to understand the warning as one of motivation and not education. It is the soil in which the seeds of knowledge are planted that prove to make the field inhospitable to the ideal of love. Academics is incapable of corrupting a heart, but a heart is capable of corrupting academics, and the heart of the classical philosopher/theologian has a much different purpose than the heart of the modern specialist..."

The article is a good read because it exposes what is out of balance in this twisted world. We are not in a unique position here .. this I believe is part of the curse as all common men from one time to another will ignore/marginalize and even stone/kill the wise because their message does not fit well into their narrative/life-view :)

You Wanted a King .. You Got It

In effect, the US has a king, and has had one at least since Lincoln's tyrannical rule with a spineless Congress and States Rights violently put down with war followed by military districts and the economic raping of the South for decades.

This is your reward above .. the appointment of people whose character stinks to high heaven.

Thousands of years ago this was predicted .. read and weep:

"When Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons as Israel’s leaders. The name of his firstborn was Joel and the name of his second was Abijah, and they served at Beersheba. But his sons did not follow his ways. They turned aside after dishonest gain and accepted bribes and perverted justice.
So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah. They said to him, “You are old, and your sons do not follow your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have.”
But when they said, “Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the Lord.
When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, but the Lord will not answer you in that day.”
But the people refused to listen to Samuel. “No!” they said. “We want a king over us. Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles.”
When Samuel heard all that the people said, he repeated it before the Lord. The Lord answered, “Listen to them and give them a king.”

Death by Taxes - Emotionally, Spiritually and at times, Physically

".. Locke, Montesquieu, and Adam Smith considered the relation of taxes to despotism and to prosperity. Montesquieu, in his The Spirit of Laws (1751) wrote:

The revenues of the state are a portion that each subject gives of his property in order to secure or to have the agreeable enjoyment of the remainder.

To fix these revenues in a proper manner, regard should be had both to the necessities of the state and those of the subject. The real wants of the people ought never to give way to the imaginary wants of the state.

Imaginary wants are those which flow from the passions, and from the weakness of the governors, from the charms of an extraordinary project, from the distempered desire of vain glory and from a certain impotency of mind incapable of withstanding the attacks of fancy. Often has it happened that ministers of a restless disposition, have imagined that the wants of the state were those of their own little and ignoble souls.

Montesquieu also wrote that liberty carries the seeds of its own destruction: “Liberty produces excessive taxes: the effect of excessive taxes is slavery.” .."

So liberty in 1782 produced excessive taxes not just in 1861 when the Morrill Act doubled tariff rates in the US (after 7 states had peacefully left), but at various times up until 1860 .. the "Tariff of Abominations" in 1832 was just the start of taxing one section of the country over another.

It is true that IF the South did NOT have healthy exports from which tariff revenue could be had, there would have been no Northern invasion of the South. Lincoln decided violence was the only way and in April 1861 called up 75,000 troops from every state except the seven that has seceded by that time AND call Congress into session MONTHS in advance ... July 4th 1861 .. which gave him plenty of time to use his new dictator to assemble a war machine and never gave peace a chance. That war was in effect, death by taxes.

When History As You know It Becomes Myth .. Again, and Again, and Again ...

Spin, its what we as humans do .. from when Adam said to God "the woman you gave me did this .."

Half true, Adam never spoke when the serpent approached Adam and Eve, he remained quiet when he had the option to speak .. so he did not escape the consequences as neither did the woman.

So too when it comes to understanding things on a more macro level .. the victor writes the history it is said .. and true to form even the US history from colonial days up to 1861 was re-written post-war to spin it so that one would think the New Englanders won the American Revolution .. or even George Washington. But it is not so .. just  half-truth that sounds good.

In the following article about Mary Chesnut one can't possibly read her words and not be moved to understand even a fraction of what those in the South went through before, during and after this war,

Here are some clips to help you understand what happened before the war:

".. Mary may have been an old-fashioned Southern belle, but there was much more to her than hoop skirts, fans, and parasols. Mary was a highly educated and cultured lady, conversant on current events, literature, and history, and fluent in French and German. To keep abreast of the news, Mary regularly read Southern, Northern, and English newspapers. Most of all, however, Mary loved literature, often quoting authors and poets such as Shakespeare, Milton, Dickens, and Thackeray. William G. Simms, the leading Southern—and arguably American—author of the age, was a friend of her family...
.. Mary believed Southern secession was the consequence of the brewing political, economic, and cultural dissension between the North and South. “We are divorced, North from South, because we hated each other so.” Specifically, Mary attributed Southern secession to the treachery and tyranny of the North against the South. “I think incompatibility of temper began when it was made plain to us that we get all the opprobrium of slavery and they all the money there is in it—with their tariff.” Mary wrote that federal taxes had “milked” the South for the benefit of the North. “The tariff, in some inscrutable way, took all our money.” In discussing the grievances which culminated in Southern secession, Mary referenced the Nullification Crisis (South Carolina’s resistance to the “Tariff of Abominations”) and the Blufton Movement (South Carolina’s call for secession over the “Black Tariff”). Mary resented the duplicity and avarice of the North in condemning the South for slavery while perpetuating and profiting from it. “We bore the ban of slavery. They got the money. They grow rich, we grow poor.” ..
.. Although Mary was deeply rooted in the Southern planter aristocracy, she was a lifelong opponent of slavery. “God forgive us, but ours is a monstrous system,” Mary seethed. “Slavery has to go, of course, and joy go with it.” Mary recalled an antislavery letter she wrote to her sympathetic husband when she was still a young lady. “It is the most fervid abolition document I have ever read…I kept it—as showing how we were not as much of heathens down here as our enlightened enemies think.” Mary later wrote of the same letter, “I anticipated Mrs. Stowe not in imagining facts but in abhorrence and loathing.” Indeed, despite her opposition to slavery, Mary despised Northern abolitionists like Stowe, Greeley, and Garrison even more, considering them as hateful hypocrites who relieved their guilty consciences by spewing lies and inciting violence. “They…look for from us—and execute us for the want of it—a degree of virtue they were never able to practice themselves.” Mary scorned Northern abolitionists profiting from their propaganda without ever living among slaves, as she and the other antislavery ladies of her family did. “Their philanthropy is cheap,” scoffed Mary. “There are as noble, pure lives here as there—and a great deal more self-sacrifice.” Unlike Northern abolitionists, Mary explained, Southern abolitionists “do not preach and teach hate as a gospel and the sacred duty of murder and insurrection, but they strive to ameliorate the conditions of these Africans in every particular.” To Mary, slavery was not only morally corrosive, but also economically inefficient. “The negroes would be a good riddance. A hired man is far cheaper than a man whose father, mother, wife, and children have to be fed, clothed, housed, nursed, taxes paid, and doctors’ bills—all for his slovenly, lazy work. So for years we have though negroes a nuisance which did not pay.” Mary shared her husband and her father-in-law’s conviction that without the Union to support slavery, the South would have to abolish it before the war was over. “Let the war end either way, and you will be free,” Mary reassured a frightened slave. “We will have to free you before we get out of this thing.” Mary did not take the Northern crusade against slavery seriously, claiming the Yankees “discovered” emancipation as an expedient pretext for the enslavement of the entire South. “If we had only freed the negroes first and put them in the army,” an idea which Mary noted grew in popularity as the war worsened, “that would have trumped their trick.”.."

One has to understand that the North did supply a majority of the slave ships AND all the finance necessary to the South to continue with slavery right up to the point where the seven southern states legally seceded PEACEFULLY. It was the North that saw a bleak future without the South to sell its manufactured goods to and especially, the lack of tariff revenue to pay for the government.

During the war Mary went on to share:
".. At the sound of cannons firing upon Fort Sumter—the first shots of the war—Mary knelt at her bedside and prayed as she had never prayed before. Nevertheless, she recognized the South’s right to fight for her freedom and defend herself against subjugation. “This war was undertaken by us to shake off the yoke of foreign invaders, so we consider our cause righteous,” Mary concluded after a spirited dinner conversation. Mary compared the Union to the Roman Empire and the war to the Pharaoh’s resistance of the Jewish exodus from Egypt. “A Union, let them call it— empire and kingdom. We in this Union would be an unwilling bride—a Union where one party is tied and dragged in.” Mary was frustrated that the North would not respect the South’s independence and let it go in peace. “We would only be too grateful to be left alone. Only let us alone, we ask no more of gods or men.” Mary often sarcastically commented on the North’s “love” and “compliment” of the South in starting a war to keep them united, by force of arms if no longer by consent of the governed. “We ought to have as good a conceit of ourselves as they have of us—and to be willing to do as much to save ourselves from a nauseous Union with them as they are willing to do by way of revengeful coercion in forcing us back.” Mary scoffed at the notion that Confederate soldiers were fighting and dying for slavery. “Can that be, when not one third of our volunteer army are slaveowners—and not one third of that third does not dislike slavery as much as Stowe or Greeley? And few have found their hatred or love of it as remunerative an investment.” In a discussion of why men who opposed slavery fought, a friend of Mary’s stated, “Southern rights…they do not want to be understrappers forever for those nasty Yankees.”..
.. Death cast a grim shadow over Mary’s life throughout the war, and she lived in constant terror of hearing the worst about her friends and family. “A telegram comes to you, and you leave it on your lap. You are pale with fright. You dread to touch it as you would a rattlesnake—worse, worse. A snake would only strike you. How many this scrap of paper may tell you have gone to their death.” Whenever her husband went away with the army, Mary agonized over his safety, hoping and praying for a letter to let her know that he was still alive. Mary mourned “the best and brightest of one generation…swept away” in a “tide of blood.” When Mary learned that a good friend of hers, Frank Hampton, had been killed, she reminisced with another of a time when they spent a week in the country with the newlywed Hamptons. “And now, it is only a few years, but nearly all that pleasant company are dead—and our world, the only world we cared for, literally kicked to pieces.” At times, the sheer enormity of the loss of life was too terrible for Mary to bear. “When I remember the truehearted, the lighthearted, the gay and gallant boys who have come laughing, singing, dancing in my way in the three years past, I have looked into their brave young eyes and helped them as I could every way and then seen them no more forever. They lie stark and cold, dead upon the battlefield or moldering away in hospitals or prisons. I think if I consider the long array of those bright youths and loyal men who have gone to their deaths almost before my very eyes, my heart might break.” Indeed, Mary was grief-stricken at the very thought of the men who had laid down their lives for liberty...
.. As attrition took its toll on the weakening Confederate armies, Mary hoped for men like Francis Marion and Thomas Sumter, guerrilla leaders of the American Revolution who drove the British out of South Carolina, to arise and organize a resistance..."

After the war:
".. As Mary and her husband traveled across the ravaged countryside — “a howling wilderness, land laid waste, dust and ashes”—to return home, she swore that even though the North had conquered all, she would never surrender her dignity. “If we are a crushed people, crushed by aught, I have vowed never to be a whimpering, pining slave.” When Mary and her husband arrived home, they discovered that their house had been looted and their mills and gins burned. “Nothing is left now but the bare lands and debts,” lamented Mary. The assassination of President Abraham Lincoln shocked Mary. “The death of Lincoln—I call that a warning to tyrants,” cheered a friend. Mary took no delight in Lincoln’s death, however, afraid that it would only make the North more vengeful towards the South, as well as loathing the prospect of hearing about “Saint Abe for all time, saint and martyr.” As triumphant Northerners debated hanging “rebel generals” and destroying the “wealthy classes,” the uncertainty over the South’s fate in the Union hung over her like “Damocles’ sword.” Mary was skeptical of peace between the North and the South, and suspected that the North desired to dishonor the South and drain her of her wealth. “I have read of no magnanimous conquerors of fallen states,” mourned Mary. As Mary had maintained throughout the war, “The Yankees…also expect to make the war pay. Yankees do not undertake anything that does not pay.” .."

Pay they did .. up until the 1960s and now again there is effort to crush the spirit of rebellion ..

Women - Interesting Insights

The whole article is a good and insightful read .. here is a clip:

".. In the ancient near east, men who could afford it sometimes took many wives. Solomon had several hundred wives and concubines. Even so, in Ecclesiastes 7:26-29 he states:

“26 I myself found that more bitter than death is the woman who is a trap, whose heart is a snare, and whose hands are bonds. The one who pleases God escapes from her, but the sinner is caught by her. 27  “Look! I found this,”… 28  What my heart sought, I did not find. Although I found one righteous man among one thousand, I did not find one upright woman among all these. 29 Look! This alone I found: God made mankind upright, but they have devised many schemes.”

It is assumed that he was talking about wisdom and righteousness in general based on the use of two women as the example of wisdom and foolishness in the Book of Proverbs. But, I am not so sure that there is not a double meaning.  I am just speculating, but it seems to me that the more women you have to deal with in your personal life, the more complicated your personal life will become..."
